Why this project
College students are some of the most transit-dependent residents of the Valley. They are also the long-term political base for any sustainable transit movement here — the people who will be voting, working, and running for office in the city for the next forty years.
Student chapters are how peer-region groups (Salt Lake’s UTRU, Phoenix’s Friends of Transit student arms, Austin’s Transit Forward college network) keep their pipelines healthy. We will build the same.
Goals
- Launch chapters at UNLV, CSN, and Nevada State by spring semester 2027
- Build student-led organizing teams capable of running campus events, mobilizing for hearings, and producing original content
- Establish faculty advisors at each campus
Approach
- Outreach through student government, student newspapers, and existing public-policy / urban-studies clubs
- Co-host events with sympathetic faculty
- Provide training in organizing, comms, and policy basics
- Pursue grant funding to underwrite student stipends where possible
